ANTIQUE BRITISH MILITARY ISSUED BAYONET KNIFE P1888 MK1

Antique British Military Issued Bayonet Knife, P1888 MK1.
This item is antique, used, and in good condition for its age and use. The 2-piece wood grips fit tightly to the tang, the wood condition is complete with no missing piece, showing normal wear and scratching. The 30 cm double blade has a polished finish with an aged grey patina and scattered spot stains and a bit of rusting, but no pitting. The edges appear to have never been sharpened and they are both not sharp, but no dings are evident.
The remaining metal on the cross-guards and pommel finish has an aged grey patina with a little scuffing and denting,
and evidently the entire locking mechanism in the pommel is missing.
This is an all-metal bayonet that has a kidney-shaped pommel with a flat end.
This has a two-piece wood convex straight rounded grips retained by two flush-ground brass rivets with washers. A small circular cleaning hole runs transversely through grips immediately behind the rivet nearer pommel.
The 30 cm dual blade tapers to a narrow spear point.
Blade is stamped on one side with a broad arrow above WD, signifying that this was military issued. Also stamped with an X below that.
Blade is stamped on the other side several times in several directions at the base of the blade with a crown and and a B and a few numbers, signifying that it was British issued and inspected several times by several people.
Handle appears to be a combination of steel, wood, and brass, and is stamped with the number 8 on the side.
